Traveling to Baja California Sur always seems to bring relaxation to the body and a lightness to the mind. BCS is a playground for thrill-seekers and nature enthusiasts alike. With its diverse landscape of golden beaches and rugged deserts, the region offers a perfect backdrop for adventure.

Days 1-4: Kitesurfing in Los Barriles
The first stop on your adventure is the laid-back atmosphere and world-class kitesurfing of Los Barriles. Located on the East Cape of BCS, Los Barriles is a sleepy fishing village offering a perfect blend of adventure and chill time with warm hospitality, sandy beaches, and breathtaking views of the Sea of Cortez.
Kitesurfing is about as fun as it gets, with the adrenaline rush that builds inside you as you fly over the sea, launch into the air and sail back down to the waves. Afterwards, relax with a drink and enjoy the communal energy of your crew and new friends while sharing stories of the day on the water.
If you have time, it is definitely worth a day trip to La Ventana, an even sleepier fishing village with excellent kitesurfing.
Two solid choices for hotels are The Four Seasons Los Cabos at Costa Palmas – which is about a half-hour drive from Los Barriles – and Hotel Los Pescadores, which is right in town.
There are plenty of places to rent equipment and get lessons if needed.
Kiteboarding Baja has everything you need for kitesurfing and wing foiling.
Other things to do in Los Barriles: Rent an ATV, sport fishing, mountain biking.

Days 5-9: Sea kayaking & snorkeling in La Paz
Your next stop is the vibrant coastal city of La Paz for sea kayaking and snorkeling. Isla Espiritu Santo is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and national park ripe for exploring with sea kayaks. There is also spectacular snorkeling and diving on its natural reefs, and you can’t miss swimming with the sea lions.
I highly recommend a multi-day sea kayaking/camping trip on the Espiritu Santo coast. There are numerous bays to explore, beaches to camp on and beautiful trails to hike. After a day of paddling, it’s nice to relax on the beach and feel the warm sun, do some fishing, go for a swim or take a hike. As night falls, a mellow campfire with family or friends caps off another spectacular day.
There are plenty of excellent hotel options in La Paz including the Baja Club Hotel –located on the Malecon boardwalk – and the Hotel Indigo La Paz Puerta Cortes just outside the city along the coast.
BACO Adventures and Baja Expeditions, among other operators, provides tours, transportation and the necessary equipment for your adventures.
Other things to do in La Paz: Walk the Malecon boardwalk, spend a day at Playa Balandra, visit the markets.

Days 10-14: Surfing in Playa Los Cerritos
For the grand finale of the BCS adventure, it’s on to the Pacific side and Playa Los Cerritos, one of the premier surf spots in Baja. The warm waters and sand bottom of Playa Los Cerritos, renowned for its consistent surf breaks, make it a favorite spot for surfers of all levels.
One of the original solo sports is surfing and there is no other experience quite like it. The culture surrounding surfing, and the interconnectedness with the ocean and other surfers provides a lifetime of enjoyment and memories.
Two amazing places to stay near Los Cerritos are Rancho Pescadero and Hotel San Cristobal.
Find rentals and lessons at CRT Surf School.
Other things to do around Los Cerritos: Do an art walk in Todos Santos, visit Los Pinos Nature Park, go on a Camel Tour.
